WHAT IS THE UPTURNER PRIZE?
The Upturner Prize is a new annual prize for modellers who bring something new and different to Scale Modelling and Miniatures.
Scale modelling is a wonderful hobby, and for most people it doesn't get much more complicated than making a superb scale representation of something, or a beautifully painted miniature pushing the miniaturist's handling of technique.
But for a small number of modellers and miniature makers, it can be something else. A chance to push the limits of the medium, and a chance to take modelling to places outside the contest categories, often seeking to evoke thoughts and emotions beyond the usual appreciation of accuracy or skill.
This prize is for those people. The people who would be an artist in any medium, but have chosen miniatures or models to do it...

Nominated artists will be featured in the site Gallery of Nominations, once their nomination is logged. Celebrating artists in the hobby is the purpose of this prize!

WHO DECIDES THE WINNER?
To find the most artistic modeller from those nominated, I have selected a special JURY of modellers with expertise in artistic modelling as supporters, advocates or exponents of the kind of modelling that best fits this prize seeking artistic expression in the hobby. Of course, none of the Jury are eligible for nomination themselves.
What is the Process?
The Upturner Prize will be judged in the same way as an art prize. Nominated artists will have their work shared amongst the judges for consideration as they are nominated.
In August 2026, our Jury will convene to reduce the list of nominations to a long list. Each judge will select a number of nominated artists they think should progress and they will discuss these as a jury, to reach a consensus.
The actual Prize is provided by our kind SPONSOR AK Interactive, and comprises a COMPLETE SET of AK 3rd Gen acrylic colours, 236 references, worth over €640.00/ £550.00/ $740.00
